North Kalimantan National Army (TNKU)
For students of the obscure. These illustrations are taken from a recognition manual produced in Kuala Lumpur in April 1966 covering the Indonesian Armed Forces and volunteer units from Kalimantan whose mission in the period 1963-66 was to "Crush Malaysia". Although a few operations were mounted by the Indonesians against targets in peninsular Malaysia, the conflict was generally confined to the island of Borneo (Indonesian Regular Armed Forces and the TNKU based in Kalimantan v British, Australian, New Zealand and Malaysian forces based in Sarawak and Sabah. Unusually for a post-World War Two conflict the aggressors were decisively defeated and the good guys prevailed. There was virtually no damage to infrastructure and very few civilian casualties.
