Default Northern Ireland TRF

I find Northern Ireland to be of interest and tip my hat to all who have served there. From what I know it was not an easy duty station!

I have long wanted to get some badges associated with it and finally picked up a couple. The gate TRF which is described as the 2nd pattern, and the harp in the shield TRF which is described as the 3rd pattern.

3rd Pattern

My question is what was the first pattern?

Thanks,

Terry

From Sargent Militaria - Northern Ireland District Embroidered Formation Sign (1st Pattern) 1939-1943 :

Quote:
a bird in a nest on a bough on green felt with a black material backing.
The design is a pun on the initials of the District, 'NID', being French for 'nest'. This is the first pattern, apparently worn prior to 1939 and continuing, concurrent with the British Troops Northern Ireland (BTNI) sign, to May 1943.

The bird in the nest TRF. Was worn in facing pairs, there is also a printed version.

Terry , regarding the second pattern :

Quote:
a new sign which took the colours of the first NID, green and white, and the motif of BTNI, a three barred gate.
The British Troops Northern Ireland motif was a red three barred gate on a black background.
