Gold, platinum and diamonds...now, that's a sweetheart pin.

Hi Rob,
What a real beauty. Some of these are just stunning. Love that it's in the box too! Well done and thanks for sharing. Roy.

It's some kind of pearl, real or otherwise, perhaps it's a replacement I've yet to see another pin exactly like it. Would look better with a red stone in its place.
I should get it appraised....might be worth more in scrap value than as a sweetheart. But suppose I shouldn't given that it's part of a group...

Do you think the sweetheart would've noticed?

Hi Rob,
Would it be possible to see a pic of the back of the cap badge? Is it gilt? Thanks, Ian. |

Thanks Rob. Looks like gilt and looks like it had a set of double tangs. Nice badge. Cheers, Ian.

Yup, it's gilt. Would like it more if some monkey had left it alone...

I think this is more than a 'sweetheart pin'. It looks more of a gift to the Royal Family (George V1?) from the RA? He was ,I believe, Captain General of the RA?
The RCOC presented HM Queen Elizabeth 11 with a Diamond and Platinum Brooch of the RCOC Cap badge when she graciously consented to become our Colonel in chief in 1958. It was returned to the museum in Nov 2012 by the Lt Gov of Quebec on behalf of HM as the RAOC and the RCOC had faded into memory as a result of integration on both sides of the ocean. I believe that the RCA/RCHA(?) recently presented HM with a gold/platinum Brooch that is replica of their Hat Badge? Perhaps one of our gunner members can confirm this? Sorry to babble on but just to say that I don't think this is your normal sweetheart pin. Cheers Al |

It was an expensive sweetheart pin that could be purchased from upscale jewellers. I wish it was so rare and unique but sadly no.

Why not send them an email as they may have a record of it and may be able to give You an idea of it's cost at time of manufacture and now if you wanted one.http://www.johnson-walker.com/default.htm
