I don't know PHil. I have a very similar story. When I was a kid, maybe 12 or 13, I use to go with my dad to work on Saturday's as he was a central heating engineer for homes.
One of his customers was actual a vet of the "Bridge Too Far" fiasco. He actual ended up in that house featured in the movie with Laurence Olivier, that manor house. Anyway, he was carried by a friend to the river when they got out on the boats. He was wounded by an MG34 20 mins after landing on the first day. He showed me the wound which he still had. Anyway, he gives me what he said was either his or at any rate a real set of wings as I was into the WW2 thing back then as I am now. I cherished it immensely. Once I checked them out on here, yes you guessed it -re-strike. I have to say, of all the things over the years, that disappointed me. I hope Robin's is a good one, looking forward to seeing the back. Simon. |

Hi gents,
The badge that Robin shows has a slider so I think we can safely say that it is not an original badge of the period. Besides that, the clues to its authenticity were it to be a looped badge would be on the obverse. There are some very informative threads on the KC Para badge that are well worth revisiting. Ry |

I hadn't thought of the slider!
Good point Simon, my own Grandad's badge is a duff. Phil

Robin,
This badge was given to you by an Arnheim veteran, this does not mean it is the one he wore when he droped in on his first visit. It is more likely one of a number he had taken with him to give away or swap with friends he may meet on his trip. Enjoy the badge and remember the vetran and his comrades even if it turns out to be a restrike, which it probally is not. I have been impressed by the young people of Arnheim who attend to the war graves there. Welcome to the forum. Eddie |

Robin,
Eddie has made a good point even though this badge isn't an original. Keep it and treasure it as a memento in the spirit in which is was given to you. Study the information that is available on the forum and in time you will no doubt be in a position to acquire the real thing armed with the knowledge to do so. Don't be put off by the fact that a lot of the badges you will come across are restrikes or fakes. Handle them and learn from them but don't be tempted to accept that a badge is genuine just because you want it to be, that will only lead to confusion and disappointment. Remember also that in most cases, a genuine badge would have been worn by a soldier in its time and you will come to appreciate and learn from the history attached to the badge and the unit that it represents. A little bit of a challenge for you Robin. Have a look at the badges in this thread: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=18491 You will find at least one badge to a regiment that had members serving in the battle of Arnhem. If you can point out one or more from the badges that are still available I will send them to you as additions to your collection. Good luck. Ry |

Don't forget Robin, once you have received all the badges, to start an album on the forum to show them all off.

@ebro I always knew that it wasn't one from the war.
@charlie585 I am studying them at the moment. @Phil2m Can i show my pins in the same album? There are some in it of which i am one of them few people who has them. I can give some more information about the memorial. It was by the briidge and it was the first time i helped with setting everything up. I was about 6 years old. The cirkel in the last image is the place where the memorial wass. On the slider is standing J.R. Gaunt London. |

I think i found one. From the bottom second row all the way to the left.
Forgot to mention, i have a kind of cap(anyone knows which one) with the parawings on it. And that parawing is absolutely a fake. It is mounted on the cap the same way as the original. Last edited by Robin Jansen; 18-08-11 at 08:11 AM. |

Hi Gents,
Just an update on the challenge that I set for Robin. I'm pleased to say that he has risen to the challenge wholeheartedly and has so far identified four badges that relate to Arnhem. There is one more that I know of to go and hopefully he will ID it soon. Ry |
