Default Rising Sun Bronze

Evening Gents,
I just got this from Keith's lot of Gaunt OSD's & wondered if anyone has a voided one like it & if so does it have lugs or blades? It's a solid backed heavy made badge & I want to put the right fittings on it & get it bronzed, thanks in advance lads,
Wilf.

Hello Wilf,
I'd say you have a rare example of the Rising Sun badge there. The first one I've seen like it.
Cheers, tinto

Hi wilf
It is a very interesting item. I’m not sure it’s actually a hat badge. Maybe for a plaque, given the finish on it.
I have a bronze example with blades but not voided like yours but mine has an immaculate strike.
I think it would look really good cleaned up and bronzed. You could use either lugs or blades

Thanks Gents, I think I'll get Magpie to put blades on it for me, I'll show you the result when it's done, cheers,
Wilf.

Hi Orasot

I have just found this post.

Id say its a cast badge that has been got at. I have printed the post out.

I have one voided, die struck rising sun. I will go through my collection and refrences on R S's and get back to you. The clue to the parentage of the badge is the shape of the voids at the ends of the scroll on the origonal badge.

Watch this space.

Cheers

Phil.

Hi Orasot

i have had a look at my RS's and yours looks as if its been cast from either a KG Luke or Stokes & Son WW2 badge, the clue is in the shape of the voides above the scroll ends and the rays of the sun. Mine is die struck but voided as yours and has had the lugs removed.

If you would like to Pm me your email address I will send photos through to you.

Regards

Phil.
