Default RFR medal naming

Where would one go to decode the gobbledygook on a Royal Fleet Reserve long service medal? SS. 117 84 9 (DEV.B. 11202) R.BELL. STO.1.R.F.R.

Greek to me.

Thanks

SS117849 is his Royal Navy regular service number, the SS prefix indicates service in the Stoker trade group. Dev B inicates that for his RFR service he was administered by the Devonport Division for Seaman service. The B indicates former service with RN but not in receipt of a pension - an A would indicate in receipt of a life pension.

Hope that makes sense

Default Thanks

Thanks very much. It might be guessed then, that he had WW1 service and remustered into the reserve force in the between war years? I have always understood the ship name was the ship upon which the chap was serving when the LSGC was issued? That ship was sunk by GNEISENAU so he likely didn't see WW2 service?
