Hi Macca,
According to Clive Johnson's book "Australians Awarded" the "C" denotes replacement of a lost badge. The Dept of Defence would issue a new badge provided a Stat Dec and a payment of one shilling was provided.

Very informative, Jim. Thank you for that very useful bit of information. I believe that I have a couple of those but I have never really taken particular notice of the numbers.

Does the letter "C" actually denote a "Copy" badge do you think?

If so, does that open up a whole new aspect to the collecting of the ubiquitous copy badges that are so frequently the topic of Forum threads.....said tongue in cheek.?

What a pity those also could not be marked with a "c".

Hi Donny,
"C" for "Copy" is probably correct. It would make life easier if "c" was stamped on all copies out there. We have only got to convince the crooks that it would be a good idea!!
regards
Jim
