Unknown Flag?
I would welcome the help of the forum please in identifying the flag.
London Transport bullseye and letter āCā , painted on one side of a coarse canvas material. With a stitched fold at the top for a suspension pole. It has been suggested it was to identify a WW2 London Transport emergency shelter, or maybe it was used by the London Transport Home Guard? I value your replies. Thank you for looking, Keith

Mike, a good call..
There were several large disused LT railway tunnels that were fitted with bunk beds, toilets and canteen, they were used to accommodate displaced persons etc. during WW2, maybe the flag was the canteen sign? Any other suggestions please?

A website has similar but with "Ladies" and "Gents" rather than a "C" and notes that they may be theatrical pros, I'd think more in terms of what's been said, banners to indicate facilities on the underground such as toilets and canteen, though I've thought "Canteen" would be used rather than "C". Perhaps "C" indicated a particular area, bay, row?

That's better terminology than I could think of - Assembly Area. Canteen's a good suggestion but I think the full word would probably have been used rather than just the "C".

H: 37cm (14.6")W: 38cm (15") which appears to be the exact same size as the "C" one. https://www.railwaycottageantiques.c...gns/prod_10558 .

Perhaps the shelters were getting overcrowded and the sign was the first appearance of London Transport's Congestion charge !
