Arriving back in England after a long absence overseas I was delighted to see the flag of St. George flying from buildings, and even hanging out of cars.
It was great to see England flying its national flag and I mentioned it to a youth I met. He stared at me in amazement and said 'No, that's the football flag'. That was ten years ago and I still have not forgiven him. Happy St. George's Day to all johnG

Happy St. George's Day from an Englishman in the frozen north (though not been too bad the last few days ).

My favourite St George's Day memory - 2004.
Mt aunt and uncle were visiting me from England en route to see my mum before she died. One of my neighbours was a British Army exchange officer who had his house decked out to celebrate. After forty years in Canada, my mum always took pride in all things English. It was nice to see that others do as well, with much more grace than some other "ethnic" celebrations that I won't mention. Phil
