This is going to be interesting. Typical, small ebay picture, the size of a postage stamp

Am I allowed to cheat by looking at my collection? Anyway, I am going to say its restrike but I am not an expert who collects every variation.

I dont like the flash under the tail end.

I can show you one that belonged to a British cavalryman that served in Ireland just after WW1. This belonged to a friend who gave me this and the story.

I havent checked the extensive forum thread on the Royal Dragoons. Sorry to sound arrogant, but I know the one below is right.

Isn't there an extremely long and tedious IRD thread elsewhere that this could be added to.

Excellent.....so they are real then? The quality is just so poor compared to the others. I am trying to find photos from this period ..... but they are like hens teeth.

Hi Simon

That thread has been a long road! But at least its getting somewhere now from where it started. Its the total lack of real info on the RDs that got me going on it. Nothing is as simple as it appears..... but its great fun digging through all the crud to find the gems (even if some dont sparkle as much as the others)

I agree, wish we could just post some definitive info without having to go through that whole thread. Or I get from it is doubt on the one's I have which in private PM's two have been confirmed as good, but when I posted them I ewas told fake.

I'm confused.

Simon.

I am with you an that, thats where I was when I started that post. I looked at the various "common" books and each had a different badge for the 1RDs. Now I am somewhere closer to the truth...... but hard evidence is very hard to find..... I have two "Royal Crest " badges photo ID'd on soldiers so they are solid..... I have two Eagle badges Photo ID'd on soldiers, so they are also solid. I have two War Office Images of the QVC & post 1902 badge so they are solid. The rest of them ..... I dont know, just speculation and hearsay.... but thats fine... all part of the fun

What I would recommend is not doing open research......
