Hi phil,

Sorry to say, but I have to agree with Alan.

Its Ok guys, I bought it as a possible restrike, and thought it was most likely. The seller I bought it from was honest from the word go. I took a risk at it, being unfamiliar with this type of badge. A reasonable gap filler i think.

Thanks for your replies,

Phil

This I believe is just a rose soldered onto a replica Recce cap badge, it has the ominous spear that is thinner below the scroll...
The only original example I was dead sure about was sterling silver, made by Ludlow from London and made differently. I don't know if there is a wm version at all?

Cool RECCE

Sadly this is one of the easiest badges to fake, just get a white metal RECCE badge and solder a white rose to it, this can be obtained from a variety of line Regt badges which I will not mention for obvious reasons.

I would not buy one of these unless the rose was "let in" with a degree of craftsmanship and had patina. Only an opinion, but I have listened to dealers stories for years about this badge.

PS. I don't generally comment about the authenticity of badges, but the rose is not even soldered on square.

Rob

i don't think it hurts to have these reproductions re-highlighted from time to time. i will hold onto it for now as a gap fill. labeling the image as repro.

thanks for all your replies,

Phil
