Officers on the Indian Army Unattached List wore something very similar, though I have no idea of exact dimensions or whether it is in fact the same badge. But, perhaps a starting point.

Norfolk Yeomanry, Military Provost Staff Corps, Royal Defence Corps, Barrack Wardens, Uncle Tom Cobley and all, the things are as big a puzzle as the POW plumes if you know what I mean JT. If you get anywhere be sure to let us all know.

Hello
Indian Army Officers on the Unattached list wore a similar cypher except it was GRI I believe. |

The GVR cypher certainly cuts an attractive dash. Always liked it personally. AA240537-4948-4547-B90F-8ACEA0F53D01.jpeg 2130BDA5-08CF-4A4F-87AF-E1CE2C8E16AD.jpeg JT Last edited by Jelly Terror; 23-03-18 at 07:05 PM. Reason: ANOTHER typo correction! |

On the subject of GvR cypher and crown badges can anyone tell me for certain who wore the gm version with a wreath surrounding the cypher?. I used to have a couple of them when I was a collector but I never did figure out who wore them. One reference book said MPSC but I think that was incorrect. Another one that puzzles me is the first pattern (1916) Royal Defence Corps cap badge, the GvR cypher and crown with title scroll below. I have never seen one to handle and have never seen any images of it being worn which is odd, given the size of the corps. The few images I have seen of RDC personnel have shown them wearing the plain GvR cypher and crown badge. Does anyone know better?.

As far as i have been made aware, they were an officers pattern badge for the Provost Corps.

Phil, there were no officers in the MPSC at that time. I don't know about these days but certainly not back then.

In that case, I may have remembered what I was told incorrectly. I have a reproduction in my albums somewhere, with a fake maker mark.
ENGR9266 has examples in his collection. May be worth dropping him a PM.
