Default Red on Black Embroidered Flaming Grenade

Hello All

I recently picked up the badge pictured below. My initial hope was that it could be a Royal Marine Artillery collar badge for wear on the other ranks working dress but looking at the only clear picture I can find of that type of collar badge there are differences to the pattern. I have a Royal Marines Light Infantry version of the ORs working dress collar and while there are some similarities the construction of the RMLI badge looks older than that of the grenade. Is anyone aware of any other unit wearing the red on black (blue) grenade as a collar or sleeve badge (it looks similar to the design of the siege regiment grenades)?

Many thanks in advance

Paddy

Paddy, maybe a WW1 bombers proficiency badge, worn on the right sleeve . . .

Lawrence

Many thanks, any idea which regiment (I don't think there were many who wore red on black/blue. Possibly foot guards?)

Dunno, Paddy. Not my area of collecting . . . seen the occasional picture of similar looking grenades being worn, I think in my 'Regiment' magazines. I'll try to dig them out. Meanwhile when UK wake-up time comes around I'm sure some forum member more expert than I will respond.

Regards - Lawrence
