Default Northern Rhodesia Police

Whilst my main collection is British South Africa Police, I have picked up a few NRP items over the years, plus two early Zambia Police badges- I have some buttons in a seperate collection too.

I am always interested in seeing what others have please.

Thanks Wayne

Very nice, a few for me to look out for there. Do you mind me storing your image on my phone as a reference, please? I like the blue enamelled badge, very smart, presumably its an officers badge?

Cheers,

Phil

Default Northern Rhodesia Ndola Police Club tankard

Wayne & Dave, very nice collections, thanks for sharing.

My boss picked this up at the local boot sale a few weeks ago, I was able to swap some bits for it. Presumably it was made as a souvenir before the country became Zambia.

Enjoy

Graham

PS No idea why the images are on their sides when they are the right way up in the thumbnails???

Default Northern Rhodesia Police tankard

This copper tankard bears the enamelled badge issued to Gazetted Officers (Assistant Superintendents and above).Thee tankards were often presented to those joining a Police Mess ( or Ndola Police Club as here) or to those departing on leave or transfer. They can also be found in pewter and silver plate but as the fortunes of Northern Rhodesia were built on copper, and Ndola was on the CopperBelt, then a copper tankard was most appropriate.

Default Northern Rhodesia Police Insignia

The black buttons, originally horn and later bakerlite/plastic were worn by the African constables/sergeants/headconstables/sub-inspectors on their winter greatcoats.Interestingly the officers' raincoats were WW1 military style in brown (they have a name but my advanced years preclude remembrance) and were held together by varnished leather ' knotted' buttons.
