Well the best people to answer those questions would the ones on the Manchester or this Forum. One former member harribobs was quite knowledgeable about anything about the Manchester Regt.

Hi Destro,

I have seen 5th VB Manchesters as a common fake I am afraid. Often seen offered for sale with some VTC ones like Blackpool and the large 8th VB Liverpool Scottish. Trawl through old Bosley's auction prices realized as sure they will have sold a genuine one.

I have one as a fake and will find it and post a pic, cheers Dean.

Smile 5th Vb Mancherster BM

Hi again Destro,

The images below are of a 5th VB bimetal Manchester's cap badge with thick non-tapered short slider. I am not convinced this is a genuine badge.

The image on the Manchester's website that Jo pointed to has a genuine all white metal badge to the 5th VB that I presume to be lugged.

VB badges apart from a few early ones that have sliders are a bad sign generally as VB battalions became TF battalions in 1908. Long sliders were introduced in 1903 and shorter sliders were introduced in 1906 so to find a genuine VB badge with a slider in that gap is hard. There are exceptions of course.

Many VB badges are in all WM to denote their volunteer status.

Cheers Dean

Hi Dean

Thanks for the last two posts, the image of your 'suspect' badge is identical to the one that I have been shown, with an asking price of £40. It would be nice to get other members views on your badge.

Thanks again
Destro
