Indian made Northants Regt
A good badge. This firm made a few differnent badges. A number of purists may think this is a 're-strike' or copy as it wasn't an Ordnance supplied item. My personal view is that this firm, and others, supplied locally made badges to satisfy a shortfall in UK made Ordnance supplied stock. As such it deserves a place in any Northants collection.

A very good example of a sand cast badge and showing the finishing off at the back (smoothing with a fine file) by hand that was common.

Given that units of the British Army in India were paid, uniformed, equipped and largely administered by the Government of India under the ViceRoy, it seems to me highly likely that "Made in India" items would be the norm.
That being said, there could well have been fully official sand-cast badges, ordered and funded at above-unit level. All the above is pure supposition and I would welcome some hard facts! |

Nice badge and good to see a maker mark, I find these cast badges very interesting and just as important for a collection. The only maker marked one I have is Indian Artillery.
