RFC Originals or Copies?
They look good to me but are they?

Hi
Not keen on these at all material looks incorrect for period pieces. The Wings are Not WW1 type. I would UV light them and burn test them to be sure. You definetly need better pictures to confidently say yes or no on originality. My leaning at the mo would be they are wrong . There is a slim possibility that the RFC title and prop may be India made ...and period. |

The wings look more like WW2 or possibly Thirties. Besides, they should have RFC on them not RAF.

I think they are all good, but the wings date from after April 1918. It's a particularly fine shoulder title and the 4 prop badge must be relatively rare now too.

The wings are later WW2 style.

I am in agreement. I think the RFC title and Propeller are modern but aged repros/copies.
SEE these listed as repros which I believe were used as the basis below http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-RFC-Fl...item56798cffee I base my view on an ebay seller who was selling multiples of copy WW1 cloth insignia all purporting to be removed from uniforms with bits of cloth still attached to them as evidence. Personally as a collector of WW1 cloth I don't like the backing material of either badge in my opinion it should be more of a loose weave 'cheese' cloth type but I appreciate that different manufacturing techniques will affect construction. I will post my RFC titles later they have direct provenance to the original owner. I would not risk buying these if they were offered. Wings look WW2 but are not in my area of collecting so will steer clear of a view. regards Mark Quote:

The thing to look out for is thick messy thread on the reverse, clear indications of Indian/Pakistani made repros. Your two cloth badges reek of it and are certainly not original. Another indication is that instead of silk thread, which is, well, 'silky' and with a slight sheen, the Indian/Pakistani repros use a rather course thread, almost like string. Once aged it becomes a bit 'hairy', something silk thread of the period doesn't.
The pilots wings are standard, flat WW2 period issue. WW1 and 1920s are distinct in shape, usually being finer and more elongated. |

Both the RFC badges are copies, originals are rather different.
