The beret doesn't look right to me, I'm not aware of any wartime pattern having the pocket for a badge slide
PS I wouldn't describe myself as an expert, I can only tell you what I have seen. If I've not seen something it doesn't mean it doesnt exist!

I have to agree on the beret. For me, I have no doubt the date has been tampered with, and that the '4' is a later addition, over another number.

Agreed, I automatically discount any beret with a slider tab as post war....

I am sorry to say the following regarding your items 1 The beret is post war Compton and sons as I recall did not start to make berets until about 1948 and there for would be similar to the war time construction berets and have slider section on the inside of the beret This example is proberly a 1950 example 2 The B D jacket appears to be a 49 pattern example with the button hole , exposed buttons and pleats to the pockets , longer eperlets etc which all add up to a 49 pattern bd blouse 3 The smock is not a WWII EXAMPLE it is a 58 pattern Denison Which has seen some use ( see my album titled Capt grants bits and other items since for smocks ) 4 The para lid appears to be ok The badges I would need to see better pics of to ascertain weather ok or not regards Steve |

The BD is a 49 pattern. I'm not an expert on Pegasus patches, but they look like the Belgian type to me.

And why would a Para Regt officer have standard infantry scarlet backings to his badges of rank? And no shoulder titles?

According to the ParaData site, which illustrates many examples, there are 1959 patterns and 1972 patterns of Denison smock and both are similar in colour and cut.
Of course the 59 pattern was presumably made and year stamped for most years (including 1968) between 1959 and 1972! Examples sell for £200 + on ebay! Tim

Compton made ARP berets in 1942, also GS caps in 1944. The earliest (black) beret I have on file is from 1954.

I did not including the arp berets as they are made different to the military examples I know Compton's also made military bd uniforms during the war the G S cap is a different beast entirely as it's made of 3 pieces of material which is stitched together to form the outer section of the cap and later became 2 pieces of material to make the cap where the beret is 1 complete outer section which is woven from scratch and the weaving pattern is changed as it's made to create the brim of the beret . I am pretty certain that I have seen a 1950 dated Compton tank beret But I it's got me thinking a bit at the mo I will be looking out for examples now for a bit all the best steve |
