To me it doesn't look round, i believe its been skimmed and renamed. I also believe the bar is fake. IMHO

Thank you Andy!
I wanted it purely because it has Stevenson on the outer edge , but I think I will bypass it! Kind regards Chay |

What was the price on it ? That may be an indication of it being dodgy. IMHO

There was a James Stevenson of the 71st Foot entitled to a Crimea Medal but no clasp is indicated on the medal roll. The 71st Foot are only entitled to the Sebastopol clasp for the Crimean War Medal.

Thank you High Wood!
What do you make of the presented example? The clasp doesn’t look authentic to me should I leave it alone? Kind regards Chay |

Hi Chay
Firstly, I am no expert, in any sense, but I did trawl through internet pics of this clasp and none I found look remotely like the clasp you show. To my amateur eyes, at very least it looks badly made, even if you ignore the font issues. Unless someone who knows gives it a tick, I think you will always have that niggling feeling about it, and for me, anyway, that takes away the enjoyment of owning it. Not an answer for you, sorry, but hope it is of some help Cheers, Tim PS, I should add, in German collecting, you sometimes see fake clasps added to increase value, e.g. on 1870 Iron Crosses, real crosses often appear with fake "25 anniversary clasps, so that is also a possibility. Thank you Tim,
I appreciate all the help here! The reason I would like it simply because it has my name on the edge Stevenson . My first name really is Charles but is Chay as in Chay Blyth. Kind regards Chay |

Bar could be a contemporary Tailors copy, obviously this has been added .
You would have to inspect naming closely to see if a previous name had been skimmed or errased . Steve |
