Default GGFG Flashes

Just a quick question. I saw two cloth flashes for the Governor General's Foot Guards with white lettering on red. One type has an inner white border but the other doesn't. Is it possible to determine when each was worn, and which was more likely to have been worn during WW2?>

Hi Loyalist, yes that is a very specific way to date the titles. The GGFG wore the pattern with the embroidered white border from circa 1941 through 1948. While overseas the GGFG noted that their sister guards regiments wore white on scarlet titles without an embroidered border. They requested a similar change to their titles and in the 1948 review they were granted permission and the pattern without the embroidered border was approved and taken into wear.

Thank you, Bill. Another question clearly answered. As an aside, is there any rough timeline for publication of Fabric of War?

Working on it.
I am not sure if the announcement made it to the BCMBF?
Service Publications has been acquired by Dave Hiorth (Military Antiques Toronto, and he intends to modernize the web site and continue publishing titles of interest to militaria collectors and military historians.
