Shoulder title on the 4 SAI uniform in my collection. The numeral "4" can clearly be seen. Last edited by sabrigade; 15-11-09 at 09:57 AM. |

SA Scottish
Hi
Just to add to what SAbrigade has already mentioned, for some reason the shoulder titles were uni-lingual so both left and right had 'South Africa' in English. I don't know if there was ever a Dutch variation. Cheers, Alex |

Hi Alex,
The theory is/was that these shoulder titles were private purchase items and therefore not controlled by the authorities in South Africa. I dont think they exist in Afrikaans/Dutch. Regards, Will |

SA Scot HeadGear 4a.jpg
SA Scot HeadGear 4b.jpg As stated earlier on during these posts, the SA Scottish consisted of a number of members from the traditional South African Scottish Regiments. This cap and badge was worn by a former officer of the Transvaal Scottish in Potchefstroom before the SA Scottish insignia and uniforms were issued and available for all ranks. |

SA SCOTTISH BAND
SA Scottish Band.jpg
This is a postcard in my collection. It depicts the band of the SA Scottish and was taken presumably in 1918 in France. The limited number of members explains the rarity of the SA Scottish sporran badges. |

I think this is the one thread you were talking about? Here is a "private purchase" sold by Griggs of Richmond. I am not sure if they made them or just sold them? Brian |

This one has me confused, never seen another. Also appears to be private purchase and has a nice smooth surface on the rear. It is of the "small type" but WW1 naming.
Any ideas. Brian |

IMG_7027.jpg
IMG_7028.jpg Brian, This is a similar badge and forms part of my display on the 1926 opening ceremonies at the Delville Wood memorial. I believe it was worn by some delegates and the badge is hallmarked for 1926. Regards, Will |

Thanks Will
Yes, they are similar, have you seen one like mine before? Owen has similar one but with later date spelling. I know it looks like the crown has been "added", of course it was, BUT the rear is the same on both badge and crown so it was manufactured this way, and not added at a later date. Brian |

Hi Brian,
I cannot find the badge in Owen's book but I will post a later silver variation that I have. I have not seen a badge like the one you have. Regards, Will |
