Default Gold "O" brevet

Hi

I got this full-size brevet quite some time ago amongst a group of other RCAF/RAF/RAAF badges and brevets but its specific ID eludes me. Padded.

I've seen gold coloured "O"s before but always beneath a crown. I've seen the brevet without a crown, white "O" and a gold wing but never one as shown. Would anyone care to elaborate on what this is?

I have had this in my sale tray for a while now but no one has shown any interest probably due to not knowing what it was. Your assistance may help me sell it on or throw it out.

regards
Darrell

To me this looks like a repro due to the wing embroidery and the backing. There was a version of a coloured "O" (khaki coloured) for the RFC which sometimes shows up but this one looks all wrong.

Hi Dave

Thank you for that.

I had thought repro as well but then I thought: If one is copying something as a reproduction, why doesn't it look like anything that it "should" look like?. Doesn't make sense to me.

Not saying that you're incorrect but rather hoping there was a design (perhaps short-lived?) like it somewhere.

I appreciate your input all the same. Thanks.

regards
Darrell

Here is one that I mentioned but with a black background. As I said the one you have is all wrong.

Hi Dave

Thank you for that image.

Please forgive my ignorance but what time period is that with the coloured "O", white wing and no crown? I assume it's RAF/Commonwealth?

regards
Darrell

It is from WWI and worn by the Royal Flying Corps. The Observer badge used by the RFC and the RAF have always looked like this, though normally the whole badge is white/drab silk. Only Canadian badges had a crown and Australia had the "O" in a blue wreath.

The basic shape, the materials used and the way it has been made, all suggest it cannot be original.

Hi Fellas

Thanks to you all for the good info.

Into the shredder it goes. I don't care for phakes.

regards
Darrell
