KGV is modern, but was picked up from the stores by my mate. I have no idea what it was made for though. Maybe a commemoration ??? I have some HMS Pickle as well somewhere for pickle night.

No idea about KGV, now if it was POW or QE I would say that you might have the tallies for the new "super carriers".
Out of interest on the board of trade badges there is one that shows a warship over a radar badge. What is it? Also while I'm here, I have a badge that looks like a reef not. I am told it is for short service, can you explain for me??? Andy |

The warship patch was a very short lived trade badge for all branches of the RNR. It lasted less than a year. The one you have was obsolete when i joined (the store man gave me 2 full packs) i will find out what they are.

I think that I've got to catch up (LOL)
When I joined in the late 80's I wore a shackle and marlin spike as a JS(O)2. I didn't last long though and never finished my training I was given a medical discharge (much to the amusement of my mates). |

The other badge you enquire about was the Short Engagement Seaman branch that was made up of people who signed on for 2 years only and did the more basic mundane seaman tasks onboard but could transfer to regular service at the end if they liked it! I dont know when this scjheme ended but I met a couple of them (in their mid 30's) at HMS Cambridge in 1998. Regards Tony |

No room at the inn
Fez
Great items, normally I'd covet the COMBINED OPS and FPGRM tallies (neither of which I was aware of) for my RM cap badge display case - but as you'll see from the album pic of it, I haven't got any more room for tallies! Ray |

Andy,
took the words out of my mouth, was going to stick this one in the unknown box, but now I know. Thanks, Bill

The RNR badge was also worn by LOGs branch, not just seaman.
The FPGRM tally was only introduced last August and i believe it was a limited run as it was changing to FPGRN, not sure if it happened though. |
