Default Unknown Marines Badge ?

I picked this one up the other day in a mixed box of badges. I think it is RMLI but it is too small to be a cap badge?
Does anyone recognise it?
Thanks
Andy

looks to me like a Mess Dress lapel / collar badge i don't think it is RMLI though.

Default Royal Marines

The globe part looks silvery, but that may be due the lighting/reflection.
If it is silver in colour, then it would be an officer's collar/lapel badge - without the crown and lion which was (and is) worn as a separate item above the globe and laurel.
If it's too small to be a standard uniform badge, then yes, officer's mess dress.

I would say it is a RMLI (because the wreath is closed over at the top) officer's mess dress collar badge but the gilt appears to have worn off the wreath part of the badge.

Thanks guys.

It look like Paddy has nailed it down. It is the Officers Mess Dress collar badge for the RMLI 1897-1921.

The badge itself is in a sorry dirty state but the globe is Silver. Unfortunately the Gilt finish appears to have been dulled and left a coppery colour. I'll give it a clean and see how it comes out.
Thanks again.
Andy
