Default Montgomeryshire Railway Rifles WBC

One of a few interesting finds today, found in a field just outside Montgomery, Mid Wales.

Does anyone have any information on this regiment please? as I cannot find anything on the internet.

Thanks.

A fascinating find.

According to an entry in the book "Arming the Citizens: The Volunteer Force in Nineteenth Century Wales", the 3rd Montgomeryshire Rifle Corps was known as the 'Railway Rifles' because the majority of its members were employees of the Cambrian Railway Company".

According to Ray Westlake's book "The Rifle Volunteers", the 3rd Corps was formed in Welshpool in August 1860 and disbanded in 1872.

Yes indeed, a great find. I think that the Cambrian Railway Museum in Bishop's Castle might be keen to acquire it for their collection.
