Default RAF Badge with Slider

Here is my find for the day which was still in the shop from last week when I saw it and has been on my mind since! so had to have it! I think I paid too much but i do,nt have one of these and have not seen any about though am sure I saw a discussion hereabouts at one time? what time-frame? am probably going to sound stupid but could this be early when RFC was reformed as the RAF ? badge seems to be of an age, look forward to your views apologise for any daft comments already made! cheers billy

Smile RAF with slider

Billy, over the last sixty years I have had lots of RAF KC cap badges, but never one with a slider, it looks good to me and I think if I saw one I would be tempted to buy just as a curiosity.

I notice the badge has not been completely fretted on the left side which could possibly mean it was of wartime production where quality was not of the essence.

I too would be interested in others opinions.

Rob

Billy,
The badge is an original, they are scarce in comparison to the lugged examples, but like Rob mentions more so as a curio than a particularly valuable item! Similarly there are genuine RFC badges which are slidered, both probably from a manufacturer more use to fitting sliders to its wares?

Hi Andy nice to hear from you! not fussed on its worth although would like to think I did,nt spend too much! but as has been said a curious badge & a must have! when I saw it and had simmered on the brain for a week! do you think it might be as Rob says 2nd W.W. but a poor strike due to no or lax Quality controls or earlier? the slider has me thinking it might be from an earlier era and possibly the forming of the RAF from the RFC (wishful thinking maybe but at some point it did happen!) also manufacturing techniques would suggest they would manufacture as they had always done again Quality would be lax but am pulling at straws here and await a Forum member with a more promising theory? hope someone comes along though! cheers all billy

Iv'e got this one which is a better strike and obviously comes from a different batch/ maker, it's been in the ground and has had the slider cut off as its smooth and has presumably been in someones collection at sometime.

This one also has an un-voided area near the letter 'F' as in the first badge shown.

Thats because they aren't voided on the F normally unless someone can say otherwise, None of mine are other than the Royal Pakistan Air Force, billy's badge hasn't been properly voided below the F in the wreath.
