Royal Scots ???
Hi Guys,
A friend has asked for some help with this. This is his relative who's name is Jack Minkley and lived in Selston, near Nottingham. What regiment do you reckon he was in?? I thought 4/5 Royal Scots but then had a thought about Cape Town Highlanders. Has anyone any ideas about this one?? Cheers, Bill

Thanks Eddie,
another in the frame I thought Royal Scots wore the diced glengarry but don't know about other regiments or volunteer battalions. Cheers, Bill

Hi J,
That is true about the pipers and the glengarries, but I think the badge is too small to be BW, it did cross my mind too. Bill

Was the Gent in a British or Commonwealth unit, as it looks like the Cape Town Highlanders!

Thanks Guys,
Andy, my friend doesn't know if he was Commonwealth. CTH was one of my first guesses as there seems to be an outline of a scroll or something at the middle left of the badge. This also made me think of the bugle on the 4/5 RS. I'll ask him to do some more digging. Cheers, Bill

I've got a Royal Scots plaque on my wall made up by my wife's father (RIP) from his old cap badge. So I can see it's not that. Wrong shape altogether.

He appears to me to be HLI in the dark green glengarry worn by rank and file for many years, and the officers and SNCOs from around 1912-13 (the latter had previously worn a pattern with dicing).
