Hello,
What's the penalty for non-payment of an item which one has won on ebay? If i realise after bidding that the item may not be up to the mark in terms of quality or not sure of authencity/provenance ..

If you don’t pay, you may have limitations placed on your account or it may be suspended

You could always pay, get the item and then contest its authenticity if, upon inspection, you believe it to be dubious.

Check ebay regs but I think you can request to cancel the transaction. Certainly a seller can request a cancellation.

That is indeed one option, or as I have had to do previously because I made a mistake, contact the seller and ask to cancel, eat a bit of humble pie and be nice and if the seller is half descent there should not be a problem, its worked for me.
