Many thanks for the identification, and for the link to the history of the TRF and the brigade.
I appreciate your help. |

Minor point I know, and some may say picky! but this is not a TRF (Tactical Recognition Flash) which for the RMP is the Black MP on Red, but a Formation Badge for 1 Military Police Brigade which will also be worn by MPS & MPGS as well as attached personnel, unlike the MP TRF which is for Military Police Only.
TRFs (worn on the right sleeve of MTP) should not be confused with formation badges (worn on the left sleeve of MTP) which are used to denote the formation (usually brigade or division or a higher headquarters) and are worn in addition to TRFs by a member of any regiment or corps serving in that formation. post amended from 'sign' to 'badge' Last edited by Mike_2817; 23-05-15 at 11:54 AM. |

Formation Badges
To be more pedantic when worn on clothing it is a Formation Badge - Signs are on letterheads, notice boards and vehicles.

OK - Formation Badge - but the point re TRF is correct.
I have corrected my post |

Thanks, I suspect that it is we collectors who are the pedants! There are many 'official' MOD documents and Internet references that use the terms flash, badge and sign incorrectly! Tim

Many thanks for all your input on this, gentlemen. I have taken note of everything and hopefully will use the correct terminology in future! I used TRF initially, as I assumed it was such, until it was identified.
Thanks again to all who responded. |
