2nd British Infantry Division
Hello,
I have a couple of 2nd Division patches in my growing collection of cloth badge. I was wondering if there is an easy way to tell WW2 period ones from post war examples? I have search the forum but can't seem to find any! Do you know of any good threads? Are there any good 'cloth' dealers you can recommend? Many thanks |

There are quite a few variations of this patch as they served in the Far East and many were locally produced, the silk woven ones are generally post war.

Hardly a definitive response, but I have checked the length of the keys in nine examples in my collection:
WW2 -2 x 49mm, 4 x 53mm Post-War - 3 x 46mm (one printed, one silk weave and one "bevo-style" weave) So I would conclude that the post-War variants are slightly smaller. |

As posted by Lee the 2 Division Formation Badge has been around for 70 years. Here are some of mine:
1: Locally made embroiderd in bullion thread on black - could be WW2 2: Woven on linen type cloth - WW2 - 1950s? 3: Woven on linen type cloth - slightly larger than 2 4: Printed - a recent fake/copy I suspect. Thin material 5: Silk woven and worn circa 1950s - 1970 6: Woven on smooth material - keys have been blancoed! 1950s? Tim

Ypres,
I think I am right in saying that all the replies to your thread have been from members of the Forum who are also members of the Military Heraldry Society. If you have an interest/obsession in cloth badges and you are not already a member, it is ( in my opinion ) well worth joining. P.B.

Four Indian-made 2 Inf Div signs. The reverse reveals details of branch locations of the Midland Bank, hockey results in Bhopal and exhortations from Government to "......time and energy to overcome our enemies." All vital intelligence for the Japanese interrogators in the event of capture!

What a great selection of badges, thank you all very much for posting.
It looks as if I may have a pair of post war badges as they seem to be smaller than the standard WW2 type. I think I may also have a locally made bullion patch. One quick question, the printed type that has been classed as a copy, was there a printed version produced during the war? and if so, how do you tell the difference? You see I do have a printed type, but I don't know enough about them to be able to say if it is good or bad. It seems to be printed on some sort of white cotton. Is there a list on the forum of recommended dealers? I will try and take a photo of my badges so I can post them for you all to see. |

Two World War 2 examples - including one printed version (not to scale, obviously).
