David

Yes the arms of Dublin Corporation has flames coming from the towers, I suspect you are right about a law link at some time in the past contributing to this badge, but I have no knowledge of one.

Michael

Yes it is a very unique "crown" - not sure what it is at all. You would be suprised what we do down south from time to time. Attached below is the shoulder flash of the 2nd Infantry Brigade , Eastern Command worn from the early 1970's until the most recent re-organization in the early 2000's. Bet you never thought an Irish Defence Force Unit would wear a Maid of Eireann Harp!

I will admit this was a very much an un-usual occurance.

Here is a photo of the arms of Dublin City over the door of the mansion house in Dublin. As you can see the 'crown" is an unusual type.

Default Unid Badge

Dublin Fire Brigade with the Cap de Maintenance removed from the Dublin coat of arms. Could be late Victorian or later, both pre and post 1922

To help close out the thread and build on what the last poster had to add. Bosleys postal auction for Jan 23 2013 lists this badge as .

Dublin Corporation cap badge worn by waterworks turncocks attached to Dublin Fire Brigade.

a complete example is lot 7 in that sale.

Just to agree that this is a Dublin Fire Brigade cap badge, missing the crovvn. I believe for the Kiepi.

Dave
