Default Unknown Boer war mounted rifles badge?

Hi all
Can anyone identify this badge?
It’s been fitted with cloak attachment?
Hallmarked Birmingham 1901?
Thanks in advance

Thanks Andrew
Does i look like a cloak badge? Would it have been made that way or modified?
On a Google search I could only find a different looking cap badge. Is this a collar or something different?
Cheers

Its a Railway cap badge, that has been modified as Andrew has mentioned.
There is also a pouch badge. They did not have collar or shoulder titles.

They operated the ex ZASM (Transvaal Railways) and OVSS (Orange Free State Railways) railways from 1900 to 1902, after which it was handed over to the CSAR (Central South African Railways). in 1910 the CSAR amalgamated with CGR (Cape Government Railways) and NGR (Natal Government Railways) to form the South African Railways.

I don't think so. The clip is right for a slouch hat but it would make the badge sit vertically, I think maybe a cloak fastener or something like that?
Cheers,
Alex

You would expect to see a hook on the hat itself and not on the badge.

hi frank
although i agree, in this example, its not a hook for a hat badge as the badge would be on the wrong angle, there are many examples of hooks attached to hat badges.

Many examples, wow, I don't think I have ever seen a single example with a hook, perhaps you can show some?
