23mm hollow domed, maker could be Firmin?

I thought this would be a tricky one.
I can't believe its George the First I wondered if it was 1st Foot, some Napoleonic Shako plates just have a numeral under the GR cypher? Rob |

Hi Rob,
Just thoughts, but I would imagine 'King George' did not become 'King George I' until after King George II came to the throne, just as, I presume, WWI did not get that title until after WWII. Trev. |

Yes you are right no one says Victoria the First do they, I just thought G1R 1714-1727 was a bit too early for this style of button. Rob |

Could it be the First Regiment of Foot Guards?
They were renamed Grenadier Guards in 1815 and have retained the monarch's cypher on their buttons. |
