Unidentified Victorian badge
Multi piece construction with broach pin. Blackened brass. It looks too official and complicated for a sweetheart broach but I may be wrong.
Any ideas welcome. Again many thanks to everyone who has looked and helped me with some of my badges. Martyn |

Can anybody eliminate it as a sweetheart broach? Is it a badge for a white helmet? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Many thanks Regards Martyn |

It's cap badge size Simon. It's an interesting badge as the wreath is attached by tiny loops and wedges.

Could it be a badge for a band, one of the former military bands formed from the old volunteer battalions.
My town band was formed in such away. They wore a mixture of military and civilian dress when they first started. Regards Stephen |

That's an interesting idea. Thanks for that. This one is difficult as there is very little to go on. It's so intricate it is made and looks very military in construction. It could well be what you say.

Many thanks. I will do a bit of research on this and see if I can come up with something. It may be standard Victorian military badge for a particular trade. I know that they had a badge for bandsman so this may a similar thing. There again it could even be a fire or postal service badge you have given me other ideas for what it may be.

I think you will find that it is a shako badge for officers on the unattached list and/or inspectors of Army schools and governors of Army prisons.

Hello again Simon
Any ideas who it may have been worn by? I'm wandering if it's an Australian police badge of some kind. Cheers Martyn Last edited by Martyn123; 30-06-17 at 07:35 PM. |
