Default Commando Insignia for ID etc..?

Hi Gents,

A good friend of mine just sent me a load of Commando related insignia to either identify, authenticate, date and value. It's been many years since collected special forces insignia, so I would appreciate some assistance, as I'm somewhat rusty. I will be selling all these at some point.

So to start off please see two wings (01 & 02). Again I'm looking for correct identification and period, good or bad and if possible a valuation?

Cheers,

Roy

Roy,
I believe both are genuine. I would say the first could be from the 60s. The other are possibly bullion wings for mess dress and could have been produced in India or Pakistan. No clue about their value.
Hope it helps.
Cheers

The roughness of the material, I'd concur (with a tiny bit either side of the date).

The first wings are identical with ones I have that were issued (or probably bought at Brize) in the 1970s. The second set are Indian - I bought some along with other badges in an Indian Military Tailors in the early 1990s. I paid pennies.

Sorry to disappoint your friend but unless I've made the investment of my badge collecting life I'd be surprised if either is worth more than the postage.

Thanks you for that gents,

Very helpful indeed and these comments confirm my own suspicions.

So on to the next patches...as you can see a pair of 43 RM Commando. I suspect post war but to be honest I really don't know.

Again, any thoughts on authenticity, date, value etc?

Cheers,

Roy

Hi Roy

These look like Andrew Butler repros. Definitely not original WWII

Hi Paul,

Thank you for that, should have known better with them being sewn up on material.

Onward then!

Please see attached two example of No10 Commando. The top I believe is fake/repro the bottom looks good to me.

Thoughts ?

Cheers,

Roy

Hi Roy

Dead right, top is a Pakistani fake, the bottom is a good original, although not the prettiest variation and probably the most common. Still a tricky one to find though.

cheers
Paul

Hi Gents,

Four examples of No6 Commando.

They all look good to me but happy for some feedback?

Cheers,

Roy

No problem Roy
The 46 is often disputed. Its certainly of late war type construction but I've seen no evidence of it worn. So is assumed to be post war.
The other looks original and was worn post war.
Cheers
Paul

Thanks again Paul,

Now these two I don't hold much hope for?

Cheers,

Roy

A definite Pakistan repro the top one. The bottom one is very likely a repro too (difficult to tell though)

Paul you're a star..

Okay and finally ...here are the last lot. I'm reasonably confident all are okay but will wait for replies?

Cheers,

Roy
