Default Medal mounting

Based on their personal experience, can any member recommend a thoroughly professional person, expert in mounting medals and assembling medal ribbon bars? A search of the web throws up numerous slightly amateur sounding enterprises. Thanks. Mike

Where are you?

I use a couple of people in Calgary? Both do an outstanding job.

I would never even consider attempting to mount medals to be actually worn but I think it is possible to do a reasonable job mounting medals for display purposes only, even for someone like me who is useless at DIY.

Attached is a picture of a group I have mounted in the last couple of weeks.

Many thanks all. I'm in Somerset, England so Calgary would be a bit of a hike! Mike

There seems to be two schools of thought about mounting medals - court mounting, and swing mounting. I personally don't like the look of court mounting, but I believe the Armed Forces may have regs about this. Some of it, I suspect, has to do with the RSM not liking medals clinking about on parade. It's something to consider when looking for someone who can mount them.

Mike,

As a collector of Medals and Badges I can say that the most often recommended medal mounter and the one I have used for years is Peter Grainger-Allen at http://www.gamedals.co.uk/

Very fast turn around and perfect job.

He is very well respected in his field of ,medal repairs and mounting.

regards

Simon and all,
Very many thanks. I think with these leads my problem is solved. While serving a variety of NATO, UN and a Malaysian medal never got mounted, nor the ribbons worn. Time to get it done now!

Hi Mike, I'm sure, like me, other members would like to see the finished project; can you post a picture when done?

Cheers, Tim

A few years ago I downloaded an e-book type medal mounting guide off the internet, amazon or ebay, can't remember which. It was a few quid but very useful. Called 'Medal Mounting for Beginners' by Richard Rosser. Step by step instructions for different mounting styles with photos to guide you. Not sure if it's still available but worth checking.
Cheers,
Alex
