WVR badge
Appreciate information concerning this presumably early version of the Canadian Women's (Woman's in this case) Volunteer Reserve (Corps) badge.
Of interest is the legend 'Edmonton' on the garter strap - this is mirrored on the reverse with the maker 'Jackson Bros' above 'Edmonton', the latter on the strap! GTB |

No input yet.
Looking at older threads on the subject I have a hunch it may be a local (Edmonton) branch badge of the Canadian WVR prior to this Corps being nationally constituted. GTB |

This is from WWI, not WWII, and was a local Edmonton organization. I'd thought it might be a WVR chapter as well, then finally came across a reference to the Edmonton Woman's Volunteer Reserve dating it to 1917. Now I just have to remember where
I'll do some brain wracking and see if I can come up with the article. The badge sure doesn't show up very often. Seen two in about 8 years.

Many thanks, DavidS, best piece of news I could expect for this badge.
Makes sense as it came with an old frame of mainly WW1 cap & collar badges, although I definitely hadn't associated it with WW1. I wonder why it has 'Woman's' rather than 'Women's' in the title! Be great if you could trace the article reference. I will google the makers and see what I can come up with. GTB |

The following may already be known to the Canadian collectors in the Forum, but no harm in duplicating information.
A quick google turned up this very helpful reference, but to steer clear of any possible copyright infringement I am posting the url itself. The article deals with fonds and there is mention of the firm's production of specific WW1 military insignia. https://hermis.alberta.ca/paa/Detail...=True&deptID=1 GTB |

Thanks GTB. You have some scarce pieces in your collection. The badges to the volunteer organizations and services are not easy to find. Compiling the history of the badges creates a great insight to history.

Thanks Bill,
Glad to share what I have with the Forum. Especially if it furthers research and perhaps helps to provide an answer. Without help from you specialist collectors I would just have collectibles that I know merit being special, but am unable to appreciate just how special. Thanks again GTB |

Info on the founding in 1915 and the association with the Legion of Frontiersmen. Scroll down to the para. "1915 Edmonton LF & WVR connections?" There's also a book about Nellie McClung that mentions her lunching with the Edmonton WVR in 1917. The book I was thinking of, however, used to be in Google books but looks like it has been removed.
