Empire Marksman, King George V Trophy. Cadets, British Commonwealth, including UK. Issue of badges ceased post WW2 because of cost. Empire 1st Class shot was just rifle.

Keith,
I stand corrected. Never heard of it before. The 6 pointed star very un- British on a prize badge, despite the SMLE. Do you have a point of reference I could research it from. regards

Cloth Version
Following a quick search, I have found a cloth version with the 6 pointed star, and here are 2 screen shots of the badge itself and a very proud cadet wearing it on his sleeve. The link to the web page I sourced them from is here A second link is here to the cloth badge. In both cases they are attributed to Canadian Cadets

That is quite the page you linked Wooffy.
The author identifies the yellow patch as Dominion of Canada Rifle Association Shooting Award, and the red one as Youth of the Empire Marksman.

Woofy,
Thanks for the links, a similar badge for sure. The one in post 1 appears much older and would like to see Keiths sources to figure this one out a bit more, particularly the entitlement of British Cadets to it. Very interesting. regards

Hi gents,
As attached - from a post WW2 file on skill at arms badges for the Australian Army in NAA. With the six-pointed star Simon, during the late 1980s or early 1990s the Australian War Memorial disposed of 2000 six-pointed stars in brass (with a high copper content) finish. They did not appear in PVCNs and nobody seems to have any idea what they might have been for. Keith |

Keith,
Thanks for the interesting letter which is very useful. My interpretation of it is that the competition held at Bisley was for marksmen from the "Empire", ie Canada, Australia etc etc and NOT anyone from units in Great Britain. Is that correct? regards

No, Empire included UK and NRA did not supply badges to those outside UK.
