Worcester valise star, Worcester badge and RA pouch badge
Good morning
This is some of my favourite insignia. The valise star is cast with good detail and the badge is officer ? quality multi part. It is engraved with Roman numerals on the back; nine or eleven. What sort of headgear was it worn on? Could anybody give me dates of issue for these as I get different results from the sources that i have checked. Many thanks Martyn

Martyn,
There is a lovely book on the Worcesters with all the badge sin it. I dont have it but hopefully someone does and can answer your question. As for the Artillery Volunteers pouch badge, that was worn from c. 1860 to 1871, when the trail style changed to one with rivets showing. regards

Martyn,
The worcesters small one and the RA Vols are fine. As for the 29th, the single central large screw post is not right. I dont know if its an original badge that has had repairs/alterations on the back to fit onto something, or, whether the whole thing is a duffer. regards

Many thanks again. Interesting observation on the star I was wandering if it has been taken off something else. The detail looks quite good and the two Worcester's came together so I don't know if the good one was supplemented with a dodgy one or if it had been altered to fit something else by its previous owner.

Hi Martyn,
The Valise badge is as it says and worn one a pack(Valise) the fittings are usually a rectangular device for a strap to go through. I think your badge may be from a plaque or presentation piece. Paul

The top badge in the first photo appears to be Bennett 262-Worcestershire Regiment officers badge for white helmet 1883-c 1890. P.B.

Many thanks for your time and helping me. I really appreciate it. From your excellent book could you propose a date for the presentation plaque badge that I seen to have. It's based on the valise badge by the sound of it?

If you mean the bottom left badge in the first photo, it appears to be Bennett 337- 29th Regiment soldiers cap badge, A star with a circular garter in the centre enclosing the numeral "29" on a sold centre. Brass c. 1880.
