Stitching in battledress
Anyone fancy interpreting this for me? Hand stitched in the belt of a British 1944 battledress blouse, badged to the parachute regiment and with a dark green lanyard (1st or 7th Bn). The digit to left could be a 7 but the others? "OO"? What might that mean? I'm stumped.

The stitching isn't of the quality I would expect from either a tailor, or the owner adding his personal details. Best guess is that it was something to do with the original manufacturing process, and was only intended for the use of storemen etc.

Thanks. That was also something I'd considered, although I've seen many stamped BD but never stitching like this.

Taking that a step further, how about a Middle Eastern laundry mark, so the dhobi knows who's washing belongs to whom. I've had this done with different colour threads in North Africa.

Thanks Stephen, that is an intriguing possibility.

Perhaps from post-war Palestine service then.
