Default Eastern Command vehicle markings

Just a little info to add for those interested in vehicle marking.

05.06.41. Eastern Command Q Branch decided that evacuated civilian transport when taken over for military use on ‘Stand To’ or ‘Action Stations’ would be marked with r the formation sign and possibly the sign of the unit to which it was attached. These signs were to be prepared, and painted in advance from 4 Gallon petrol cans. These would be wired to front and back of vehicles when in Military usage. (Info from WO166/89).

I realise that these vehicles were never mobilised for an invasion, but does anyone have pictures of petrol can signs in use, perhaps on exercises?

Stephen.
