WW2 Cloth?
Hi just picked these up and wishing to confirm era hopefully all will be WW2 ?
The Arm band am guessing St Johns Ambulance, but think its a mixture of a couple Hostitaliers? (white cross on red background? ) I don't know really! Also the shoulder slip on Yellow / Mauve? Diagonal (sharpshooters? pops into my head so expect that to be wrong! anyone tell what this is?) Have loaded images of American items all came together, WW2 also and any information on these would help are these early or late? Many thanks in advance billy |

Billy
the W York title is a nice WW1 slip on title introduced circa 1916/17. If it has no particular interest to you i'm pretty sure it would find a good home with member MH331 - Mark specialises in WW1 slip on titles PL |

The 'C.H.S.S.' armlet is 'Central Hospital Supply Service' (British Red Cross Society & Order of St John). Cannot furnish you with period of wear I'm afraid, but I believe the organisation was established in 1940, so possibly WWII. Regards, JT Last edited by Jelly Terror; 28-03-18 at 07:37 AM. |

Hi Billy
The Royal Observer Corps and the RAF Regiment are the 1950s to 1972 pattern so not WWII. Dave |

The CHSS only existed in WW2.
The blue-backed flying badges are of WW2 vintage and usually identified as being made in Britain for the USAAF. The Wikipedia extract explains whey they are blue-backed. Jon In order to recognize and differentiate combat aircrews from other airmen in Europe, on March 29, 1943 the European Theatre Headquarters of the U.S. Army created an ultramarine blue cloth patch 1" × 3.25" to be sewn on the service coat behind the aviation badge. According to General Order 18, HQ ETOUSA the patch was to be worn by personnel of the Army Air Forces who held currently effective aeronautical ratings or who were authorized to wear the aviation badge for air crew members, during the time such personnel were currently assigned to combat flight duty. The patch was to be promptly removed when the individual ceased to serve in such capacity or left the theatre |
