Modern Cap Badges
Hi All
Can any member help me please with information about any books that have details of the latest British Army cap badges since 1992. I have been informed that the latest edition of Kipling and King Vol. 2 has a new chapter but have been unable to find which edition or ISBN number. My copy is well used and dated 1983, so before the changes. Kind regards Ian |

I haven't seen a new version of K&K vol 2, but Robin Hodges' book 'British Army Badges', self-published about ten years ago shows many, but not all of the most recent badges - there have been a few more added since then. He had planned to update his book ten years later, but I don't know what the status of it is now. Does anyone know?

Hi Ian,i found the new edition of K&K vol2 very poor to be honest The images werent good and the additional information in the Options for Change chapter vague.
I ended up going for a copy of the earlier addition after seeing the new one. What sort of information are you looking for,a specific regiment ? There plenty of people on here who are very knowledgable regarding modern and current regiments. |

Try this. Missing are the new Royal Lancers, Wessex Yeomanry and the SMIY. I have a Royal Regt of Scotland but have not added the picture yet, |

Thanks all
I'm glad for the update on Kipling and King from Mike H before buying but the pictures from Alan O are probably better than any book. Thanks for that as it's a big help when finding new badges. I am also going to have a look back at Robin Hodges book as I missed the Life Guards cloak chains. Regards Ian |

Hi Ian,
I have been studying modern cap badges (from 1993 onwards) for the past three to four years now and have been penning the information into a book format. To date I have identified the following numbers via offical doco: 127 cap badges inc Gurkhas, Departments and Royal Marines that have been authorised by the Army Dress Committee (ADC) and provided via public purse. These badge have both NSN and pattern numbers. 11 cap badges authorsed by ADC but provided via regimental/corps funds. These badges do not have NSN/Pattern No. 16 cap badges which I know are/have been in use but can find no offical documentation to back them up. I have most of these cap badges in my collection but the area is a minefield of PRI items and dealer knock-offs making acquiring original items at times quite difficult. Some of these modern cap badges are very scarce indeed. Hope this is of interest. Regards, Chris |

Hi All
Thanks for all the responses. I now realise that when collecting cap badges, collar dogs and shoulder titles there are so many badges and so little time ... When I broached the subject with the better half, there was a sharp intake of breath with pursed lips followed by 2 questions - How many more? and Where are you going to put them all? Thanks again for all the images that were sent. I now have targeted shopping list! All the best, Ian |
