The fact that they are "fake" is of little interest to me! I'm only interested in building a broad knowledge base of the meaning of particular insignia, I'll leave the collecting of "genuine" badges to those who can afford it! but maybe I'm guilty of not wording my question specifically enough! if so I humbly appologise! Hi Steve GGA,
I'm sure that badge was worn between 72 - 75 at Sek Kong Camp (48 Gurkha Infantry Brigade) - but I think after 75 it changed to black on green - as some wise spark decided to rename all barracks into 'lines' ... Could I be right? + Anthony Quote:

Arthur,
There was a 26th Gurkha Infantry brigade based at Johore Bahru, it was formed in 1948 or 9. It was part of the 17th gurkha div along with 48 (Seremban) & 63 (Kuala Lipis)Gurkha infantry brigades By 1950 the 26th were still at Johore. I am not aware of any patch worn by the 26th. It disbanded in 1959. Steve |

Hi John,
As always - thanks. So .... if my Dad 'then' had a green background with black kukris could this be linked maybe to 6th (QEO) GR - as that's what he ended up with? As always, thanks! + Anthony

The eagle arm badge is indeed the the 6th GR. Incidently i had a photo of the bandmaster of the 14th/20th H wearing a facing pair of eagle collars rather than the POW feathers. |

Steve Steve Thank you very much for this, it confirms my suspicions that 26 Gurkha Bde did not wear any Bde Patch in the Malayan Emergency. Arthur |

48 Gurkha Infantry Brigade Badge
Quote:
The 48 Brigade badge 1957 - 1959 was white crossed kukries on a red background. I served in Sekkong with 1RTR, (10 Troop Leader, C Squadron) throughout this period and still have my original ones on my "OGs" (Olive Greens) as made for me by our regimental tailor, Au Wai Lam. Sadly the appear to have shrunk a liitle over the years!! Best wishes Gordon |

Hi Gordon,
Do you mean the tailors outside of SKV in that ricketty shed/building? Au Wai Lam is still there last time I looked! The other one was Princess and I think she was nearer to Kam Tin. Best wishes to you and yours, + Anthony Quote:

Au Wai Lam
Hi Anthony
Au Wai Lam was on the right hand side on the main drive leading from our Guardroom to Brigade HQ. His shop was inside the camp very close to our Squadron lines. I'm not sure what this has to do with badges but hope the Administrators will allow it just this once. We can carry on with Private Messages if you wish. Best wishes Gordon |

How about blue
Has anyone come across this white kukris on blue background? I only have a picture of it, never seen a cloth version. Someone did tell me it might be a Hong Kong Gurkha Unit possibly Air portable. Or somebody has just dreampt it up?
I think that 26 Gurkha Brigade spent some time near KL or the Highlands and wore the Gold Kris on dark maroon background. |

CROSSED KUKRIS ON A BLUE BACKGROUND
Quote:
a. Gurkhas attached to the UN. b. Gurkhas attached to the Army Air Corps. c. Just more rubbish. I go for c until I see documentary evidence to confirm correct identification. Never heard of 26 Gurkha Brigade wearing the gold kris on maroon background, the FS of OCLF based in Kuala Lumpur. This sign was introduced c1957 following the demise of HQ Malaya Command. |
