8th Kings Royal Irish Hussars Cast Badge
I don't think these turn up very often. This is a typical sand cast example. The regiment was only in India for a short time just after WW1 but spent quite a long time in Egypt and surrounding areas before WW2. Maybe that's where it was made.

Some from a job lot recently
I got these in a job lot I bought recently.
I still quite like these. When I get one I always think about some poor digger somewhere hot and sandy losing his cap badge and getting one of these made up at the local bazaar so that he doesn't get chipped for it during an inspection. Or maybe a more canny soldier getting a few knocked up to help out those less "fortunate" than himself.... Rob www.commonwealthmilitaria.com |

And two more for luck. The Maori Pioneers badge was one of the first I ever bought.

I am not sure about this one to be honest, never seen another to compare it to. Is it bronze as the picture shows it slighly darkened/silver? Brian |

Brian, I give it a little scratch on the reverse and it seems to be brass with a bronzie coating ?
The crown and the lion are made from the same type of metal as the rest of the badge. Could it be a field cast badge for an officer? Shane |

Hi Monty,
Do you know whether this type of scroll attachment for a BM sand cast badge is usual and confirmed as period correct (rather than 1970s vintage)? I'm not doubting your badge at all as I know nothing about these, it's just that I've seen one with a similar construction that I am considering purchasing and would value your opinion please. Kind Regards, Pete. |

Hello Pete.Good point,It is a recent purchase from e..y.The BS as it joins the main badge is very weak brass being to thin.I even think there is a glue type substance near one of the rivets so it might have had a basic type of repair.I think its a badge with age as to if the BS was added at a more recent time I would not Know. Thanks for taking an interest.
