I would welcome the opinion of the forum, is this badge real or fake please?
Thank you, Keith

A much discussed badge, a search of the forum will find lots of threads about these badges, but I think from memory the MMG applied from the rear with large tabs is bad.

I certainly do not like the look of it at all. Heavily faked badge.

Here is a photo of the rear of my own badge for comparison.

The die flaw in the crown is a bad sign also.

Mine also doesn't have the tabs, and is similar to Charliedog's:

I much prefer this version where the MG is not voided.

I can't remember who told me, but I understand this is a good fake http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...67&postcount=7

An old picture, but the die flaw I mentioned.

Here's a picture of my badge with the MMG applied to the rear with small tabs. I believe this to be a 100% good one.

and vastly different to the badge in question, Colin. Much cleaner and detailed, in my opinion.

It is certainly interesting to note that whilst the badge in the original post in this thread is completely spurious, the voided "MG" in the MMG, is a feature that can be found on some original examples, of course, the more usual non voided MMG is also a feature found on the majority of copies, certainly those that I have seen over the years.
