Default Newfoundland Shoulder title

Required to illustrate an article in Miitaria on the "Fighting Newfoundlanders" of the Second World War - a high quality image of the cloth shoulder title NEWFOUNDLAND in white (or buff) letters of khaki worn by the three regiments of Newfoundland Gunners in the first half of the War. It will be properly attributed in the published article. Thanks. Mike

Yes, I think so, thank you. I'm hoping that these three are genuine. My co-author has other examples. Mike

The middle one appears to be a "Patch King" reproduction.

Bill,
Thanks. That's very helpful. Off it goes - into the sin bin. Mike

Default Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit

I believe that a cap badge was authorised for the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit. If so, was it worn by the members of 3rd Inverness (Newfoundland) Battalion, Home Guard. If not, what cap badge would they have worn. Reason for asking is to help "round out" our article on Newfoundland lad component units in WW2. Thanks. Mike

The Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit was a civilian organization and as far as I know (mostly from photos and a faint recollection of some stories told in the early 1960s by a former Newfie forester who used to work for my grandfather) did not wear uniforms logging. The badge seemed to be worn on the lapel of their civvy coats.

Whether those who served in the Home Guard wore the NOFU badge is another matter, but from the photos I've seen (mostly very grainy and not too clear) it doesn't appear so.

Many thanks. Very useful information. The men in the image of "NOFU HG" (within a Staffs HG website for some reason) are clearly wearing a cap badge - circular with a crown on top? Could this be the Newfoundland Forestry Units cap badge? Mike
