Hackney Downs School Army Cadet Force Uniform
Thought I'd share this interesting uniform with the membership.
A 1952 dated 1949 pattern battledress blouse with some interesting badges. On each sleeve are white on red Royal Berkshire regiment and Army Cadet Force shoulder titles above the formation badge for the County of London Army Cadet Force. At the bottom of each sleeve is scarlet edged (Infantry pattern) Warrant Officer Class 1, King's crown rank badge. Around the left shoulder is a navy blue plaited lanyard and above the left breast pocket are the ribbons for the 1939-45 star, Defence Medal and 1939-45 War Medal. Most unusual are the embroidered "Camel" badges exclusively worn by The Hackney Downs School Cadet Corps. Never seen them before and wondered if they have been attached to the uniform in the correct place ? I.E. on the epaulettes. The school website confirms that the School Cadet unit was affiliated to the to The Royal Berkshire Regiment and that it seems to have ceased to exist in the early 1960s. There is a photograph on the school website showing the cadet unit in the 1950s, one of those pictured is wearing WO1 rank badges on Battledress uniform. Wonder if this is this the uniform in the picture ? Enjoy PL |

I reckon that an ex-soldier with WW2 behind him in a cadet unit is allowed some licence with what he sews on where. Who will argue !
