Thanks Keith,

I wanted to make sure !

Don't worry about the colour, I've just taken the photo by electric light, it's definitely white metal ??? perhaps a better photo tomorrow ???

Your thoughts please ?

Dave.

Dave,
I am unable to comment on other Regiments, but for the Volunteer units attached to the Welsh Reg all helmet plates have the central device attached to to the backing star either by spot welding (sorry I don't know the proper term) or the whole piece is pressed in one.

Not lugged through as in your example. Your example appears to be the same as the normal brass backing plate.

Perhaps other Reg'ts used this.

Hwyl,

Kevin

Thanks Kevin,

Keith's example is the same as you describe, I don't know the correct term either but I'm sure it's something like spot brazed ??

I was hoping the back star was right so that I could change the centre and sell it on, the centre that came with this plate is the Queen's, K.& K. 293 which I wanted to keep.

As a double whammy, now that I have removed the backing cloth from the center, I find all four hoop type loops have been re-fitted using lead solder, I guess it's going back !!

Thanks to you both for your input !

Dave.

PS, Here is a photo taken in natural light, white metal it is and as Kevin suggested, the hoop type loops are similar to those found on gilding metal back stars !!!

The end,

Because of the condition of the HPC, I returned the badge and the seller refunded me immediately, not the postage for which he had charged twice as much as the actual cost, mind you but he was straight up and I appreciated that !!

The refund didn't have time to earn any interest, it went directly to Canada, watch this space for a nice arm badge in particular ???

Dave.
