A worrying trend it seems, having read the comments of the members that have been collecting for many years.

The badge linked to below was the first example of this pattern that I had seen with a marked slider so I had to purchase it. If you look at the listing you will see that it had a fairly distinguished former owner but whether this has any influence with regard to its provenance I wouldn't like to say.

There is a very simple difference between cast and applied plaques.
Integral cast plaques only appear on bronze OSD badges.
Applied (brazed) plaques only appear on base metal (ie usually ORs) badges.

Many thanks Ian. The one that I mentioned has the plate on the back of the crown. I will see if I can get hold of it.

Gents.

I've had this splendid little item for a few years now. United Provinces Horse.

DSC00065.jpg

Not having any Indian Army reference books, judging by the size, I believe it to be a collar, but I may be wrong, it is possible it is a small badge worn on some form of headwear.

Posted solely to show the Gaunt plaque on the rear, small, thin and at a jaunty angle.

I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of either the badge or plaque.......however somebody may know differently.

Regards
Brian

A very interesting badge there, Brian. Cannot provide any helpful comments, I'm afraid, but great to see it.

Peter.

Cheers, Ian.
Hi Ian, came across this the other day and thought it was interesting that it too has a plate and not stamped into the metal itself, on the same MGC as the one I posted earlier.
Different position, but begs to confirm something in the tablet officers badges having added tablets as a norm.

Simon.
